Organisation and Administration

  • How is the university organised?

The Brahma Kumaris’ spiritual core is in Mt. Abu, Rajasthan, India. The operational structure consists of the World Headquarters in Mt. Abu and the Regional Co-ordinating Offices in Sydney, Nairobi, Moscow, London and New York. There are also National Co-ordinating Offices and Local Centres.

  • How are Brahma Kumaris centres administered?

A National Brahma Kumaris’ Centre is a registered, non profit-making organisation or charity that operates within the local laws of each country. There is an appointed national co-ordinator who is responsible for the administrative duties within the country and helps in the co-ordination of the local centres. The style and method of administration is done within the climate of the local culture but draws on guidance from the international guidelines of the BK Procedures Manual, a document prepared by an appointed international working group and adopted by all the national and regional co-ordinators worldwide. Most teachers and students live and work in the community and volunteer their time, talents and other resources for running centre activities.

  • How are teachers appointed?

An individual who has been a regular student of the university for at least 12 months, who follows the basic lifestyle proposed by the university, has been adequately trained to be able to give the Raja Yoga introductory course, is actively involved in the service activities of the university, has shown an interest and aptitude for teaching and who has been approved to give this course by his or her Main Centre Co-ordinator, in consultation with the National Co-ordinator, is appointed as a teacher of the foundation course. This person is required to attend regular teachers’ meetings both in their own country as well as an annual international teachers’ meeting.
