Welcome to Brahma Kumaris, Ghana

For nearly two decades, from the early 1980s, the Brahma Kumaris taught Raja Yoga meditation and shared spiritual knowledge with the people of Ghana—without having an official base in the country. Finally, in December of 1999—at the invitation of local people—the organisation established a Meditation Centre in Accra.

Since then, regular lectures, workshops and seminars on topics related to Self-Development, Personal Empowerment, Values Education and Values in the Workplace have been offered through the centre. Special ‘knowledge’ exhibitions have also been arranged. Many who have participated in these programs have experienced benefits such as regaining peace of mind, increasing concentration power, enhancing self-confidence and strengthening character.

On a global level, the Brahma Kumaris N.G.O. has actively participated in several international projects including the Million Minutes of Peace Appeal (1986), Global Cooperation for a Better World (1988), Sharing Values for a Better World (1989) and Manifesto 2000 for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence. In 2006/2007 we adopted the theme Just A Minute to promote the significance and value of regularly taking “just a minute” from time to time to practise peace and silence—in order to conserve vital energy and prevent modern-day symptoms of stress and “burn-out”.

My home has become a haven of peace through my practice of meditation, which I have learnt from the Brahma Kumaris. - Amedeus Mensah Akorli
